New-age skills like AI, IoT, robotics to be part of Skill India

With a view to prepare youth for high paying global jobs the government has decided to include new-age skills like Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT) and robotics in the Skill India programme.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman made this announcement in the first Union Budget of the second term of Narendra Modi government.

“To prepare our youth to also take up jobs overseas, we will increase focus on skill-sets needed abroad including language training. We will also lay focus on new-age skills like artificial intelligence, Internet of Things, big data, 3-D printing, virtual reality and robotics,” the first full-time woman finance minister said in her budget speech. 

She said nearly 10 million youths have got industry relevant skill training through the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana. It has helped in creating a large pool of skilled manpower.
